Paulina y el Buscapié, a musical group formed in the city of Oaxaca in 2007, has consolidated a collective work of creation between musicians of different origins and formations. Their music is based on new compositions, the arrangement of traditional songs and the interpretation of other geographically and historically related genres, exploring with the instrumentation, arrangements and poetry for an aesthetic that brings together tradition and contemporaneity. Through the fusion of instruments and rhythms of traditional bands from Oaxaca, the son of Sotavento and certain Latin American music, with elements of rock, jazz and chamber music, El Buscapié tries to promote from its music a reflection, criticism and overcoming of the apparent dichotomies between the traditional-current, the local-strange and the rural-urban. Paulina y el Buscapié has taken their music far and wide during their 10-year career including to South America, Europe, and Asia. They’ve played festivals in South Korea, Vietnam, Canada, and also at WOMAD in Chile.
