Burundian singer, guitarist and composer Andy Mwag was born 32 years ago in Bujumbura (the capital of Burundi at that time).
Under his real name Ndabaneze André, Andy began his career as an artist in a school group that regularly met at a youth centre called Centre Jeune Kamenge. There, he received his first musical training, and soon distinguished himself by his touch on the guitar. Inspired by the likes of George Benson, Jonathan Butler, Jimmy Hendrix, Lokwa Kanza, Jimmy Dudlu, Aaron Ntunga, Carlos Santana and John Mayer, it did not take Andy long to walk in the footsteps of his musical idols, through a combination of strong concentration and many rehearsal sessions.
Andy received his first guitar pedal from Father Irunga Désiré, a Salesian priest who admired his talent. Father Désiré supported him tremendously in his growth as a musician, and went on to accompany Andy throughout his career.
