About The Artist

Shakti Shane Ramchurn has the good fortune to be mentored by, and to collaborate with, the great maestros of Indian classical music, blues and jazz, as well as outstanding artistic directors from various disciplines and countries.

After 15 years of study, including completing a degree in Indian Classical Music (Performing Arts, Tabla), specializing in Kathak dance accompaniment, and working for four years as a tabla instructor at a highly respected university in Mauritius (an Indian Ocean island nation off the coast of East Africa), Shakti decided in 2008 to create his own identity and start living the artist’s life. This led him to explore a range of styles, such as lounge music, blues, jazz, swing, Sega, Maloya, and African rhythm & percussion, and culminated in his own major creation, the EL TABLA PROJECT.

As a music artist, Shakti has worked with highly revered Mauritian and international creators such as Anna Patten, Eric Triton, Philippe Thomas, Stephen Bongarcon, Linley Marthe, Gilbert Pounia, Tiloun, Talike Gele and Jean Alain Roussell.

Under the patronage of Eric Triton, Shakti has played almost 150 concerts and festivals around the globe. It’s been a very rich journey which has helped him to better understand the essence of global music.

Also, Shakti has composed, recorded and arranged music for ballet and dance, often with the guidance of Anna Patten, Director of Art Academy in Mauritius.
